• There is a “popping” or “cracking” sound in my headset

The majority of the time this occurs is because either the headset needs to be replaced or the nut on the mic pack below where the headset plugs in has become loose.

Step 1 – Notice the notch in the nut on the mic/line input. Take a small screwdriver or paperclip and tighten the nut where the headset plugs into the mic pack by turning it clockwise until it’s tight.

Plug in the headset and test mic audio

Step 2 – If step 1 was not useful please connect and test your backup headset.

It is important to submit a ticket to us immediately after moving on to a backup headset so that it may be replaced to ensure quality sound in our studios.

  • Our microphone sound OR music sound is fluctuating up and down on its own

This can be a failing ZC-1 Volume Controller. (The volume controllers are usually found near the coaches station)

This requires a ticket to be submitted for your Regional I.T. Admin to arrange a replacement.

  • The mute button on the mic pack just slides back and forth loosely

This will require a replacement. Submit a ticket with Afterburn I.T. Support

  • Music AND microphone audio cut off for around 15 seconds at a time

Many times this can mean that the amplifier is overheating. This can occur when the fans on the back of the amps are dirty. Canned air can help clean the fans when necessary.

In other cases this type of overheating can occur due to the amplifier being driven too hard/loud. Turning down the volume will generally solve this issue.

  • Just the microphone audio is out
    1. Check that your batteries are charged. Our standard are Panasonic Eneloop AA batteries. These are optimal as they survive discharge much longer then others.
    2. This could be a frequency issue. Make sure the frequency preset on the mic pack matches the Frequency on the Sennheiser Receiver.
    3. Try your backup headset

In the event that any of these troubleshooting steps do not seem to help please create a ticket with us. The studio sound system has many parts and can be prone to issues and difficult to troubleshoot. Including the following items in tickets for sound system issues will help us locate the problem.

  1. Does the issue involve the music, the microphone, or both?
  2. How many times has the issue occurred?
  3. What are the levels are the volume knobs on the wall and the device playing the music?
  4. (If applicable) What sensitivity is the mic pack set to?
  5. (If applicable) Have you to tried testing with a different headset?

Including video of sound problems can also be very helpful when the behavior is hard to describe.
